Kindergarten Registration

Welcome to Kindergarten

Kindergarten registration for the 2024-2025 school year opens on February 1, 2024.

Connecticut Law has changed with regard to kindergarten age requirements. Public Act 23-208 states “public schools shall be open to all children five years of age and over who reach age five on or before the first day of September of any school year.”

If your child turns 5 on or before September 1, 2024, jump ahead to the kindergarten registration process below.

If your child turns 5 between September 2, 2024 and December 31, 2024, families may make a request for their child to be considered for early entry into Kindergarten.  Please see these instructions to initiate your request.  Families will be contacted to schedule a kindergarten readiness assessment. Please note that early entry into kindergarten cannot be guaranteed.

Families interested in learning more about early entry into Kindergarten are encouraged to attend one of our virtual information sessions. The dates and links can be found below:

If you are unsure about your child's readiness for Kindergarten, the staff of Avon Public Schools is here to support the transition to Kindergarten every step of the way. Parents/Guardians are welcome to attend one of the Kindergarten Entry Virtual Meetings mentioned above, sign up for the CT SPARKLER App, or request an informal screening by contacting our registrar's office at 860-404-4720.

A reminder to all families that in Connecticut, Gen. Stat. § 10-184 requires that children ages 5 - 17 attend school during regular school hours and days. However, a parent or person having control of a child five years of age shall have the option of not sending the child to school until the child is six years of age as well.
