Avon is located 10 miles west of Hartford, the capital of Connecticut. It is a suburban community of 15,000 residents known for its exemplary school system. Coupled with supportive government agencies and a beautiful location, Avon is considered to be one of the most desirable communities in the state. Originally established as an agricultural community in 1830, Avon has emerged as an affluent suburban community.

Avon has demonstrated a strong commitment to education by its emphasis on student achievement, improved school facilities, and parent involvement. During the past eight years Avon has witnessed the construction of a new elementary school, a renovation and addition to its middle school and other elementary school, the completion of an extensive renovation and addition to its high school, and the construction of a grade 5-6 elementary school.
The results of the Connecticut Mastery Test and the Connecticut Academic Performance Test place the Avon schools as one of the highest-scoring districts in the state. Strong emphasis is placed on students achieving at their highest level of expected performance.
Avon parents are encouraged to participate in school affairs and have demonstrated their support for education at town meetings, a strong volunteer program, and an active PTO in each school. Parents are continually working with administrators and teachers in developing school improvement plans that will further enhance community and parent involvement in the schools.
