     Dr. Jo Ann Freiberg, of the CT State Department of Education, presents on March 6th at 7pm in the High School Community Room. Dr. Freiberg is one of the preeminent experts in the state as it relates to issues regarding positive school climate and anti-bullying. She was also instrumental in working with the legislature in drafting Connecticut's original anti-bullying legislation and still advises the state in recent updates of these policies. 
     As issues related to school safety and improving school climate remain central to our concerns for improving our students' experiences and performance in our schools, we are fortunate to have Dr. Freiberg present, answer our questions, and help us take the appropriate actions for moving forward.

MISSION STATEMENT
The purpose of the Avon High School Parent Teacher Organization is to work with the faculty and staff of
the high school in providing educational programs
of quality and in facilitating involvement and
communication for parents and guardians.
The PTO goals are:

  • To represent the views of parents/guardians in matters of secondary education in Avon;
  • To encourage a high degree of communication between parents/guardians and the faculty and administration
  • To schedule informational programs with the school.

Coordinator will oversee parent & student volunteers to improve school facility and grounds as needed.  Volunteers needed to assist with various landscaping projects and proposed interior design improvements being discussed for the gallery.

 Oversee the grocery store rewards program with local supermarkets including minimal data input and coordination with AHS Librarian Julia Cowans-Wilhelm.

Volunteers needed to lead and assist with directory publication process including data input and editing during July and August timeframe for distribution at Open House in September.

Coordinator will work with Julia Cowans-Wilhelm, AHS Librarian to support current projects and new initiatives, prepare gallery showcases/displays, occasional catalog filing, supervision of silent study area and student work areas, etc. are needed on a weekly, biweekly, and on-call basis.

 

Volunteer Coordinator......................Open

Coordinator will reach out to parent/student community (National Honors Society, Avon Club, Student Initiative, etc.) to find volunteers who will help assist in mailings, and other office tasks and projects as determined.  First major project occurs during the week prior to school assisting office staff with summer packet mailing.
