2013-14 Sports Information
Congratulations to Coach Terri Ziemnicki who won her 300th victory of her Field Hockey coaching career. The team defeated Brookfield on 11/5 with a 1-0. We are all very proud of Terri and her tremendous accomplishment as a coach here at Avon.
Please remember to submit your PTP fee to the Athletic Office or the Main Office. Fee must be submitted with 10 days of the start of practices or before the first contest.
Please fill out and submit to your Head Coach the Parent Permission Form and Emergency Number Form. Passes that indicate that the athlete is cleared with their physical can be picked up at the nurses office. If there is any question if the date of the athletes physical has run out, please contact the nurses office.
All winter sports will start their practices on December 2nd except Girls Basketball who start practices on Nov. 25. Specific times and sites are as follows:
Ice Hockey - Dec. 2 - @ AOF 5:15 am-6:15 am / Dec. 3 - @ Westminster 8-9pm / Dec. 4 - @ Westminster 8:15-10:15pm / 12/5 - Off / 12/6 - @ AOF 5:15am -6:15am / 12/7 - @ Loomis 11:30am-1:30pm
Swimming & Diving - At New England Athletic Club - Dec. 2 & 6 - 6:30 - 8:30 (Bus will leave H.S. @ 5:30), Dec. 3, 4, 5 - 7:00 - 8:30. (Bus will leave H.S. @ 6:00)
Conditioning - Basketball - (Optional) Nov. 18 - 20 & Nov. 22 Boys/Girls - 5:00 - 6:00 - New Gym / Nov 25 & 26 - Boys only 5:00-6:00, Old Gym / Nov 27 1:00 - 2:00 Old Gym Boys only
Boys Basketball - Dec. 2 - Tryouts - (freshman) 4:45-7:00 / All otheres 5:15 - 8:00, Dec. 3 - 2:30-5:15 - 5:15, Dec. 4 (freshman)- 2:30-4:00 (old gym) (all others) 4:00 -6:00 (old gym), Dec. 5 - 2:45 - 5:15, Dec. 6 - 5:15 - 7:45
Girls Basketball - Nov. 25,26 - Freshman Tryouts - 2:45 - 4:15 / Varsity & JV Tryouts - 4:25 - 6:15. Nov.27 - 11:00 am - 1:00pm. Nov. 29 - 1:00 - 3:15. Nov. 30 - V & JV (only) practice & scrimmage 10:00am - 1:00pm.
Wrestling - Dec. 2-6 practice 2:45 - 5:15. Dec. 7 practice 9:00 - 11:00 in the back portion of the old gym.
Boys/Girls Indoor Track - Dec. 2 - 6, M-F meet at the Track @ 2:45. Practice will be from 2:45 - 4:15 each day.
Cheerleading - Dec. 2 -5, 12/9. All from 3:00-5:00 in the gallery.
There will be the annual Winter Pre-Season Coaches/Parents Forum scheduled for Wed. 12/4 @ 7:00pm in the auditorium. Coaches meeting @ 6:00 in the cafe.
ZIEMNICKI NAMED TO CT COACHES HALL OF FAME
It is with great pleasure that we announce that coach Terri Ziemnicki has been selected to the Connecticut High School Coaches Association hall of Fame. This award represents the highest achievement a high school coach can receive from their peers. Ziemnicki will be formally inducted into the Coaches Hall of Fame on November 21st at the Aqua Turf in Southington. She will also be recognized at Rentschler Field during halftime at the October 12 UCONN football game. It is there where a plaque will be permanently hung in her honor.
Our Certified Athletic Trainer this year is Alison O'Connor. She is normally at the school b/w 1:30 & 2:00 pm. Alison's presence at practices and home games will be prioritized depending upon the probabilty of potential injury. She can be contacted @: (860)404-4740 x 1275 or by email @: email@example.com. Busses will normally leave the High School at 2:45pm and practices for our off site teams with practice being held generally from 3:00 - 5:00.div>
TeTeams practicing on site - practices will normally be from 2:30 - 4:30.
Student Athletes must realize that they are expected to participate in every practice and contest during the regular season. Parents should avoid scheduling family vacations during your son or daughters athletic season. Athletes who do miss practices or contests due to vacations or other activities should expect to have playing time altered. Coaches will address this with their teams.
Accessing Interior School Area:
Anyone entering the Avon High School and accessing areas that are closed, may be subject to administrative discipline and police action. There are no interior athletic facilities open to the public or the student body unless approved by the administation with supervision provided. Police take notice.
Home Game Prices:
Admission to all games: $5 per adult and $3 per student/senior citizen
Any parent wanting to transport their child to or from an athletic event where a bus has been provided must contact the coach, explain the emergency, and obtain a parental form (click forms on the left menu). One copy of this form must be submitted to the Athletic Department with another copy going to the coach.

Choose FORMS from the left menu to download the form which must be submitted, with payment, ten days after the first practice. If an individual or a family cap occurs, it is required to submitt the form with the cap indicated.
The following 3 documents must be turned into coaches by day 1 of tryouts. Coaches CANNOT allow any student to play unless they complete and hand in these documents:div>
1-Sports Physical pass can be obtained from the nurses if you have an up-to-date physical on file with their office. Download the SPORTS EXAM FORM from the FORMS folder on the left menu and bring it to the nurse's office.
2-Permission Form can be downloaded from the FORMS folder on the left menu.
3-3-Emergency Card can be downloaded from the FORMS folder on the left menu.
