MISSION STATEMENT
The purpose of the Avon High School Parent Teacher Organization is to work with the faculty and staff of
the high school in providing educational programs
of quality and in facilitating involvement and
communication for parents and guardians.
The PTO goals are:

  • To represent the views of parents/guardians in matters of secondary education in Avon;
  • To encourage a high degree of communication between parents/guardians and the faculty and administration
  • To schedule informational programs with the school.

How To Be Involved

SPARK Committee - Volunteers needed for the planning and execution of our March 23rd Student-In-Service Day. There is much to do, from finding presenters to student scheduling. There are tasks of all sizes.

Library - Supporting current projects and new initiatives, preparing gallery showcases/displays, occasional catalog filing,
supervision of silent study area and student work areas, etc. are needed on a weekly, biweekly, and on-call basis.

Office Help – Willing to help as an on-call volunteer to assist in mailings, and other office tasks.
(Traditionally, we have only called about 3 times during the year.) Contact chairperson: Nevine Mounib, 860-656-7992.

Graduation Party - Seeking parents of students in any/all AHS grades.
Contact chairpersons: Elizabeth Coleman, 860-673-4823 and Abby Kannenberg, 860-673-7388.

Parenting Education Committee - Group will organize films and parenting forums with speakers.
Contact chairpersons: Jennifer Wolfberg, 860-675-8026 and Randy Leaning, 860-675-6143.

Community of Concern – In conjunction with administration, group will organize student and parent forums regarding
drug/alcohol usage issues.  Contact chairperson:  Becky Sahl,  860-673-6598.

AEF/PTO Gala Event – Volunteers will help organize and co-ordinate the formal dinner and auction scheduled for March 31, 2012.

Care Committee - Volunteers will assist, as needed, Avon families in crisis with meals, rides, etc.
Contact chairperson:  Nancy Kostal, 860-676-2363.

Gardening Committee – Volunteers will work on beautifying the grounds at AHS.
Contact chairperson: Margot Carpenter, 860-693-1255.

Rewards Coordinator – Oversee the rewards program with our local supermarkets and encourage families to sign up.
